The purpose of this resource is to provide a guideline for parents to implement the Australian Curriculum Space and Earth Science syllabus for Foundation to Year Two (Stage One).

Conversational learning and hands-on lessons are the main teaching tools you will use.

Your children are encouraged to ask why!

“He must be accustomed to ask why — Why does the wind blow? Why does the river flow? Why is a leaf-bud sticky? And do not hurry to answer his questions for him; let him think his difficulties out so far as his small experience will carry him.” -Charlotte Mason

There are 27 Space and Earth Science lessons. Chapters include:

  • What is Weather?
  • Outdoor Observance
  • Earth’s Assets

A small amount of preparation is required in looking over the lesson. Much of the work involves discussion, drawing out your child’s own observations and recording them in either drawings or cutting and pasting pictures representative of the focus of the lesson. You may need to write words and ideas for your child.

Additional books have been suggested to complement your science lessons. These books are not essential but they will enhance and improve your child’s understanding of these topics.

Australian Curriculum checklists for Earth and Space Science have been provided at the beginning of each chapter. These can be used for your homeschool records to indicate you have covered the appropriate content.
